TIPS: Wedding Hair — EBM Photography

After a short break from writing wedding tips posts, due to things being rather manic, here is your next installment. Today's post is about wedding hair. Obviously this is aimed at brides rather than grooms!When thinking about wedding hair your style options will very much be dictated by hair length. Typically I had had my hair cut short only a couple of months before my now husband popped the question. I knew that I wanted an up do, which required at least shoulder length hair, so I set to with growing it back. If you have short hair you may also choose to do this, however there are plenty of styles for short hair that look stunning.If you do keep your hair short you can use various hair accessories to dress up your usual do, such as jeweled clips, hairbands or tiaras.If like me you choose to grow your hair or already have long hair then lots of options are on offer to you. I am lucky that I had 14 months to grow my hair, but even then I felt I needed a slightly fuller look, so invested in a hair piece that may stylist highlighted to match my hair colour. You wouldn't know would you?The next question is do you do your own hair on the day or do you hand over the responsibility to someone else? This could be a friend or relative, or a professional. I know that I wanted to be as stress-free as possible on the day, so I went with the professional option, though my chosen stylist was also a friend, Jason from Ten Hairdressing in Bedminster, Bristol. I decided that our bridesmaids would have their hair done at the same time and in a similar style. I was lucky that their hair was a similar length so a half up, half down look worked well.So what do you need to know about booking a professional wedding hair stylist?Sharee and the team at local salon Spoiled Hairdressing in Cupar, though they also have a salon in St Andrews, answered some questions for me.How far in advance should a bride book for her wedding day?We would recommend enquiring about the date once your wedding date is confirmed, this will avoid disappointment in getting booked in!How far in advance of the wedding should a bride book a trial, if required?We would recommend anything from 6 months before your wedding to have your trial. This then gives you time to grow your hair if you feel you want a little more for the look you are going for.How long should a bride allow on the day, to have her hair styled?We allocate an hour for an appointment on the day of the wedding for getting her hair done.How much does it cost for wedding hair and trial?The price varies if you have the stylist go to your venue, or have it done in the salon. The in salon price is £50 per person for hair ups, or £31-£35 for blow drys. Our call out charge is £525, which includes hair for up to 5 people. We charge £47 for a bridal trial.What is the current trend for wedding hair or most popular style?There are more and more vintage styles coming into fashion at the moment, with low classy buns, all quite loose. Pleats are also very popular at the moment, with both hair ups and half up/half down hairstyles.What are the top 3 accessories for wedding hair?Top accessories are jeweled hairbands, jeweled clips and becoming more popular are small fascinator type accessories.To get examples of the current vintage styles and more there are various magazine publications available.
