The Firth of Forth and Inchcolm Island

Yesterday my husband and I went on a boat trip on the Forth Belle from South Queensferry to Inchcolm Island and back. We passed this little lighthouse on the way.It was a rather blustery day, but quite sunny at times.Inchcolm Abbey was quite stunning in the sunlight, especially with the dark forbidding sky behind.There was a priory on the site which was thought to be founded by Alexander I, and was later elevated to the status of abbey in 1235. Various additions have occurred over time leading the buildings that now stand there to be something of a rabbit warren, with passages, door ways and spiral staircases all over the place.We were lucky enough to see these two beauties who were people-watching from the sea (Atlantic grey seals.)On the way back to South Queensferry, we travelled under both the Forth rail and road bridges, the latter pictured below, as well as seeing how the new crossing is coming along.
