6 Tips for a Stress Free Family Photo Shoot
Do you want to know how to make your next family photo shoot stress-free? Then read on!
Family photographs are a timeless reminder of how your family is a any given moment in time, not to mention a great keepsake for future generations.
Getting the family together to take those perfect portraits has the potential to become stressful if not approached correctly. There are a few things to consider when it comes to a family photo shoot, since there are likely to be members of all ages included, some extra coordination is required. Below are some family photo shoot ideas and tips to keep you and your loved ones calm and smiling throughout the shoot.
Timing is Everything
If you have younger children involved in the shoot, try and arrange the photoshoot at the best time of day for them, preferably after a nap! A rested child will likely be happier and therefore more cooperative. On that note, make sure that all family members have had enough sleep the night before as this helps keep things more calm and relaxed.
To Bribe or not?
Do you need to use bribery to get the family on board? Hopefully not! Get your family excited about the photo shoot instead of offering a reward in return for their cooperation. If you resort to bribery it tends to lead to forced smiles as they'd rather be somewhere else. If you do have small children coming along it's really helpful to bring some favourite toys to make those difficult moments a little easier
Let your photographer take control
As much as you’ll want to direct your children on where to stand and how to pose, it’s best to leave that to the photographer as they know what works best. Not having this pressure will also make you feel more relaxed.
It's not just about the posing
The best photos happen when you’re having fun, so try to relax and be yourselves, joke around and play with your kids, hold your partner’s hand, let the moments happen, and your photographer capture them.
Plan Ahead
Discuss all of your requirements with your photographer beforehand so that the shoot can just flow. Let your photographer know if you want specific pictures taken. Think about combinations of people, perhaps write a list so they don't get forgotten.
Keep those sugar levels up
If everyone is well fed, the photoshoot will also run a lot smoother. It’s also not a bad idea to take a few snacks and some water along for those who might need it
